Gravel strips around the house and paving work: pros and cons

We also discussed the topic extensively. In our old house, there was a lot of damage in the base area that would not have happened with splash protection strips, so I wanted gravel all around for the new build. Nevertheless, we now had the terrace paved right up to the wall (brick), but with a 3% slope and also a 55cm roof overhang.

Material and size of the gravel are secondary, as long as it is not too fine. From 16/32 onwards, permanent water permeability should be ensured. At the gravel works near us, there is 30/60 for 24 euros per ton, so practically free. Unfortunately, my wife liked the granite gravel better - for 420 euros per ton at the Globus hardware store.

Your questions sound familiar to me.
Today I dug out the ground for my curbstones.
There will be a white gravel layer around the house which I will partly plant.
It will be 40 cm wide.
The reason is simply that I have an extremely short roof overhang and I hope that the facade will not get dirty because of it.

Unfortunately, my wife liked the granite gravel better - for 420 euros per ton at [Globus Baumarkt]..... Firecrackers, I would have prevented that with a clean sweep in the shoe store. Karsten

How wide should the strip be?
Is any kind of gravel (regardless of color) particularly suitable for a gravel strip?
Or is one rather unsuitable?
Does shape and size matter?

We have a "splash guard" of 150cm, which also serves as a path around the house. We have no paving in the yard, but coarse gravel in anthracite; our path, which also serves as a splash guard, is made of the same material (this way it makes more sense).
However, the patio slabs are directly by the house with a stud membrane in between.

Hello Wiebke, please ask your site manager about the splash guard strip. MHM takes this very seriously because of the later warranty. It should also be found in the documents. Our site manager even came out again to take a look at the stud foil and the gravel strip. After that, our landscaping gardener had to come again and extend the strip on one terrace. For your information: Our roof overhang is 70 cm, the splash guard strip 20 cm.

Site manager has been interviewed, questions regarding warranty clarified. Now I have a few questions of my own:

• There seem to be three different types of dimple membranes. Which ones are they? So far, I have only found "simple" dimple membranes and those with fleece. What else is there? What effect does each difference have and what is really useful?
• There are certainly quality differences in dimple membranes, right? Regarding material and thickness, for example? What should one pay attention to? What can you recommend?
• There are finishing strips for the dimple membranes. These are mounted horizontally at the top edge on the facade with screws (?) or adhesive. Is this sensible???
• With a continuous gravel strip around the house, the edge stones would also run continuously around the house. Doesn't the concrete base in which the edge stones are embedded also trap possible water between the edge stones and the house?
• What should be taken into account with drainage channels? Besides the aspect of "driveable" or not.
