Hello everyone,

we actually want to use mobile parasols for our terrace (10x4m) so that they can be adjusted according to the position of the sun. However, to make them windproof, you have to use proper weights, which then make them less mobile, or are we mistaken?

As an alternative, we thought of two large parasols that are embedded in the ground along the long edge of the terrace. The parasol should also be tiltable. That way we should be able to properly shade the entire terrace, and since it will be concreted into the ground, stability should not be a problem.

(1) What do you think? Are there also mobile parasols that actually work? It doesn't help us if you’re afraid it will fall over at the slightest wind.

(2) Which brands can generally be recommended? I prefer to buy something good once, and I have no idea what is qualitatively good in this area. I don't want to base it on price.

(3) How about the sockets? I thought I could concrete in a "standard socket" this year and then choose a parasol next year. Apparently, there is no standard here, so I need to know now which parasol it will be. Is that correct? I don't want to be tied down.

Parasols, well, we had a 3x3 meter one, no matter how you positioned it, the sun moved. When it was raised to shade a larger area and there was a light wind, it already bent. The idea to improve it with 2 parasols can of course work. But the wind remains, so the parasols have to be big enough to sit under like in beer gardens, which definitely costs well over 2-3 thousand euros.

So better go straight for a roof or a sun sail.

Sun sails are also available retractable and in any size.

We now have a 6x4m sail that is wind-permeable. Priced under 200 euros.

And eventually a roof with vertical awning.

Bald.

But I'm not a fan of umbrellas either.

We have a motorized sail about 9x6m. It provides plenty of shade without repositioning. For the price, you could get 3-4 umbrellas from Glatz (which would have also been necessary to shade the area). However, it holds up to wind force 6 and is rainproof.

I have one from MDT 5x5m here, sufficient for various tasks. I would definitely recommend it.

So I checked and the Glatz Sombrano S+ can also withstand up to 40 km/h and there is also a movable stand, but it costs 1k. I had read that there are differences between the ampelschirms and one type is more susceptible to wind than the other.

The Sombrano is also waterproof and not just water-resistant if you choose fabric group 4. So that wouldn't be a bad option at all.

A sun sail will be difficult to install. 10x4m is a large area and I will probably need several...

An MDT 5x5 costs 7.7k... the 3x3 still costs 3.5k... that's quite steep.
