Unfortunately not, I have a strict ban on pictures

Take a look at Soliday. In my opinion, a reference when it comes to sails around here.

I am a big fan of sails. They fit the current architecture and allow for very large shading. There would have only been three awnings that matched the design and only one (Markilux) came close to the required size. That would have been a coupled system for about €10,000. It wouldn’t have been wind-stable anymore.
You have to move umbrellas, they look like huge walls. That was out of the question for us.

If you want TOP quality, check out Glatz. As someone has already written, not exactly cheap but Swiss quality and stands up to a lot of wind.

We have one from Globus house brand Primaster 4x4m and the umbrella cost 170 euros. We are extremely satisfied, the thing is super stable. Even strong wind hasn't been able to harm it at all so far.

We initially considered getting a very expensive branded umbrella for a few thousand euros. But I wouldn't know what that would have brought...

Thank you for the many contributions! In my opinion, the disadvantages of the sun sail are visible, the shade is where there is no table and half of the terrace is in the sun. The cantilever umbrellas can be tilted and thus provide significantly more shade when the umbrella is positioned at a right angle to the sun.

We are currently considering those from Glatz. There is also a cheaper alternative for 500€, although fabric class 4 is only selectable from the higher-priced models. I find the protection against mildew, mold, etc. very practical here, and at the same time the fabrics are waterproof and not just water-repellent.

When it comes to sails, it is important to oversize them so that the shadow they cast actually hits its target. Additionally, the sail can be lowered on individual pylons, for example towards the west. This extends glare-free seating into the evening hours. During the transitional period, when the sun is lower, this eventually no longer works. Same problem as with awnings, even with a retractable valance.

Of course, you can position an umbrella directly against the sun, provided the sun, for example, comes from the south and the umbrella is also facing south. See the example of [Nida] – where would you put your umbrella there to block the sun all day long? Then you end up looking at the umbrella or have placed it in the walkway, and adjust it every 30 minutes. With an umbrella, you also can’t cover a large terrace, so is the solution a battery of umbrellas? Especially since the seating area at [nida] is obviously intentionally not under the sail.

Everything has its pros and cons.

The picture was taken at evening sun, not fully extended and the support not lowered, taken on the day of installation. After 3 months of experience, for the table with 6 people there is always a shaded spot as planned, and extended by 2m the door is shaded
