I read here in the forum that a building services engineer (TGA planner) is always advisable for heat pumps and controlled residential ventilation with heat recovery.

My heating installer says that the architect handles all of that. And if not, then he is not worth his money...
Does the architect handle that? In which phase? Execution planning?

Should I additionally involve a building services engineer? When should I involve the building services engineer?
What does the additional building services planning cost approximately?

Definitely! Anyone who claims the opposite should come forward here!
Is the HI a follower of the architect ;-) ? What verifiable training does an architect have regarding MEP so that he would be legally reliable capable of this? Just question that! ;-)
With large projects, no architect dares to be responsible for essential MEP planning! For single-family houses, they are much more generous, well aware that the client won't sue afterwards! ;-)
It is relatively easy to hold the architect in advance responsible, simply make the expected energy consumption a contractual component.! ;-) Here the chaff will quickly separate from the wheat! ;-)
Why extra? A solid preliminary investigation of the essential building technology (heating, hot water, possibly ventilation), planning/dimensioning of the system technology is part of every construction project, no matter how big!
For example, in a single-family house, the costs are much lower because invoicing according to HOAI is usually not necessary or required. It is completely sufficient here to clarify the critical focus points professionally!

Best regards

Thanks for the answer + tips @ €.

From when should the MEP planner be brought on board? Already in the design planning phase?

Can you give me a rough estimate of what I should budget for the MEP planner? 10k, 5k?

Where can I find a good MEP planner?
Any recommendations for Hesse?

Hello,
Hello,
At the latest when the building structure (components) is defined.
I often find details that can be improved with little effort (small cause, big effect).
Architects usually regard building services engineering rather neglectfully, as they view the building with completely "different eyes".
Certainly well below that!
In this “small” area, TGA planning according to HOAI would be far too expensive and, in my opinion, not necessary. It is completely sufficient to clarify the essential or critical focal points.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any. However, unlike energy-efficient building renovation, this does not require an on-site reference.
For detailed questions, a direct e-mail or PM to me.

Best regards

Hello PeterLustig49,

from an architect’s perspective, I completely agree with my predecessor! I cannot imagine that any university or college trains an architect and a TGA planner at the same time.

As an architect, you are an all-rounder, you have to have an understanding of all trades (and not just a superficial one), plus all the legal aspects (building application, contracts, ...) and be able to design (designing does not only mean that it looks nice, but also that it works well (e.g. floor plans) especially together with the specialist planners (what use is the most beautiful floor plan if you cannot fit in the building services or if it cannot be realized structurally?)).

A TGA planner specializes in one area and is brought in by the architect. The TGA planning is not part of the architect’s contract!!

We always recommend a TGA planner, but usually the builders of a single-family house want to save these costs (as well as the architect’s ;-).

Many greetings
