Hello, I am new here and planning to convert an attic in the family house in Austria. It is about 140 sqm with a high but not very steep roof.

I would like a very large dormer over the garden equipment with about 5-8 meters in length.

Now to my questions:
- Is it possible to build a dormer over a corner of the house (corner facing outward)?
- I am planning glass folding sliding doors that can be completely pushed away with a railing on the outside, does anyone have experience with this?
- How is it with window cleaning, are there possibilities from the outside?
Is there an option for sun protection?
- Are there possibilities to install insect screens (roller blinds) along the full length or in several sections - manually or electrically?

Also happy about personal experiences and ideas. Looking forward to everything, thank you

You should ask a local architect. He can assess whether the project complies with the rules.

Show the house, we can’t imagine it like this. Legally it might be possible, technically this surpasses my imagination at the moment. Why not, when cleaning you just stand outside. Without a railing there are certainly no experiences ;-) For example on the railing, I would say.

Is the height due to a high knee wall?

To my knowledge, that would not be allowed in Germany. Due to the fire protection regulations (?) as well as design reasons, minimum distances to the gable are required.
Often the half or one-third rule also applies: dormer width in relation to the total length of the roof. Aesthetic reasons as well as subordination of the building part.

Impossible is nothing. Just as a suggestion here.

Otherwise see post #2

Show us the relevant corner of the house.

it is in AT.

I know. Otherwise, I wouldn't be writing this here: We don't have to familiarize ourselves with Austrian law now, do we? ;)
