What does that mean concretely? Species-appropriate in the sense of "like in nature" is exactly nothing that we do with pets - whether prey or predators.

Wait, I'll get the popcorn... because this discussion could take a while.
Let's start with: "the cat domesticated itself" and is therefore different from many pets. Is the symbiosis with humans therefore not natural in the sense of species-appropriate?

No. And my follow-up question was meant to provoke something completely different. I am waiting for the answer, but I've already started the popcorn machine.

Does a cat actually poop?

I think one should calmly call a spade a spade. It is plain and simply cat shit.

I would never build in a new development area. Exactly because of such nonsense!

They don’t function properly anymore because of such a pile.

Who am I actually supposed to hold accountable if a fox, a marten, a raccoon, or something else shits in my garden? Last spring I had a raccoon family in a tree on my property. What are you supposed to do with that? I have a shepherd dog with a good hunting instinct. There are simply no problems with that.

I would kindly but firmly inform the neighbor, if he is interested in a quiet and cooperative neighborhood, that he should please refrain from such antics in the future. If he wants further escalating trouble, he can certainly get it.

It is always important to make such matters clear and settle them from the beginning. Otherwise, the provocations will only increase and lead to unrest and dissatisfaction among you. Don’t engage in a petty war, it’s useless. Better to go on the attack than to give in.

The neighbor's cats have also used our sandbox as a toilet.. I had success repelling the cats with a powder. maybe sprinkle that at the neighbor's place.

But what is absolutely unacceptable is the reaction and throwing things onto your property, I only expect that after no conversations have been fruitful.

Here I would make a clear statement.

That was also my first thought. : If you/your husband want to or can handle it emotionally, you could directly tell the neighbors to please inform you if there is feces on their property again. You then pick it up, bag it, and send the feces to a lab. Then the neighbors will know, in case they lied (that YOUR cats were seen), that their lie will be exposed and will probably refrain from such claims in the future. Depending on how your cats look, it could also simply be a case of mistaken identity. Otherwise, I agree with you that at the described locations, it is more likely to be martens, hedgehogs, etc., rather than cats. However, I would still send the feces left on your driveway to a lab, at least initially without communicating it.
