Gable Roof vs. Hip Roof

We were at an acquaintance today who is also a civil engineer. He told us to replace our 22° hip roof with a 22° gable roof, which can save around €5000. For a house with the cute dimensions of 11 x 8.4 m... is there really such a difference in roofing costs? Does anyone know about this? Thanks in advance and have a nice evening.

Yes, a classic gable roof is usually/almost always cheaper. With the hip roof, you have more work, more waste, etc.

Apart from the costs, you can also install windows in the gable ends of a gable roof for lighting and ventilation of the possibly existing attic. Such a hip roof is, of course, quite stylish...

It's really chic....however, we're currently annoyed by this hype of Tuscany houses around us, so we're seriously considering returning to the conservative gable roof. However, it should have the same roof pitch of 22°... what do you think?

Yes, I can understand that well. In every new development area, Toscana houses are currently thriving.

It's not necessarily our taste either, but if people like it, why not.

However, you should consider the orientation of the gable roof if you want to install a photovoltaic system or solar thermal system.

Photovoltaic system is not planned at the moment. But if ever at some point, the gable roof would even have an advantage in this respect, since the two sloping sides face north and south and the gable roof thus offers more area on the south side. Thank you for the hint!!
