Hello everyone,

we are currently in the construction process. There is no water connection on our property yet. However, a neighbor is kind enough to let us use their outdoor faucet in the garden. The outdoor faucet comes directly from the building wall.

With the upcoming winter, we now need a solution for temperatures below freezing to ensure that the outdoor faucet and the pipes inside the wall do not get damaged by ice formation. I couldn't find a suitable solution online, and even at the hardware store they couldn't help me. Does anyone here possibly know a solution that reliably protects an outdoor faucet from frost without completely shutting off the outdoor faucet?

Thank you very much for your help and best regards

The only solution is to let the water run. If none is needed, turn off the water, remove the hose, and store it in a warm place. No one works anyway when it's freezing.

Hey, thanks for the quick feedback.

If not in use, the water hose should also be drained. The hope, however, is that the outdoor water tap does not have to be completely shut off, because each time we would have to go into the neighbor's basement again.

If there is such a possibility, we would prefer to insulate the outdoor water tap from the outside and electrically heat it. Unfortunately, I haven't found a suitable solution for this yet.

You can build a small styrofoam box (or buy one ready-made, e.g., [Wärmehaltebox für Speisen] or similar), and install a heating wire with a temperature sensor inside – look for [Dachrinnenheizung] or [Rohrbegleitheizung], as there are many ready-made solutions available for this.

An outdoor faucet drains itself. That’s why the hose should be removed. You don’t need to go into the basement.
