The original poster apparently considers the conversion necessary. For a house built in '57, I don't need to imagine what the basement looks like ;) However, there are nice dry basements that can be developed. I think that while the kitchen can certainly be discussed overall here (everything else may more or less be well adapted to the existing structure), the focus should be on the question of whether the two-family house character can disappear. I still don't know where the front door is planned. I would also be interested in a few photos, especially of the outside and the staircase.
