Hello everyone,

slowly we are reaching the phase of the construction with the flooring, or at least we should start thinking about it. For the living area, bedroom, and office, we have decided on vinyl with a wood look, but we are still unsure about the hallway.

My girlfriend would like stone look in the hallway, but everything we have seen so far in vinyl or laminate didn’t really appeal to either of us in one way or another. Now I am considering whether we should go for real tiles or granite. The problem there is with later changes or repairs in case of damage.

Has anyone faced the same dilemma and how did you decide? Who has a vinyl floor with stone look at home and hasn’t regretted it?

Regards
Michael

I also looked at a lot of vinyl and think that only the wood look is interesting here. All other decors are somehow not really the thing. Do you have underfloor heating???? If yes, I would choose tile/stone without hesitation. If you don't have underfloor heating, there is still electric underfloor heating. Before now the outcry comes about it using a lot of electricity and this and that. These heating mats do not serve as a heater but are only meant to keep the floor warm. That's why the electricity consumption is low. I only had an initial conversation but around 10m² is about 3€ per month and since it is not in operation all year anyway but let's say only half, that's no more than 20€ more electricity consumption per year. So you could still consider that before ruling out tiles because of the cold.

In the hallway, I would always prefer stoneware. The idea of laminate should actually be discarded immediately, as it is more susceptible in this area. Also, in my observation, the hallway is usually mopped more often than other rooms, simply because this area is subjected to more wear and tear.

Why are there tiles everywhere on the ground floor except in the study? And we are absolutely satisfied with that.

What do you see as the drawbacks of tiles?

Cold feet - I wouldn't want them everywhere, so we only have them in the bathrooms, throughout the basement, ground floor utility room, ground floor hallway, kitchen, and all bathrooms.

Rest vinyl...
