Give an example of what you imagine a high-quality cantilever umbrella to be? Especially if it’s supposed to be portable, so not concreted in.

What bothers me about those things is that they always cast shade where you don’t need it, generally the shaded area is too small. The stand is constantly in the way and if you put it "upright" so that it blocks the sun from your eyes nicely, you have a lot of fun with the wind.

Maybe you know the Simpsons episode where Mr. Burns darkens the sun over Springfield ... but let’s leave it at that

You should google Schneider Bermuda for parasols. Find a suitable position to ideally set it in concrete. These things are very versatile, even almost usable vertically, and not comparable to the usual cantilever umbrellas that rotate anywhere, as they can be fixed in any direction.

A sunshade like that has something for me of a allotment garden or traditional middle-class.

We have a large umbrella, the neighbors have an awning, both are great in their own way in summer... the terraces are about twice as big as the shaded area and both face south.

You have sun when you need it and shade... also moving the lounger/chair/table (max once a day) is no problem.

But I would also recommend simply placing the terrace in the east, then you have no problems with the sun and don't have to shade anything.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t want to judge that negatively at all, since these currently modern lifeless and rigid stylish gardens with lots of symmetry have nothing to do with family gardens anymore.
You can really sit comfortably underneath it.

But I stick to my suggestion of a tree.
Grym took about 2.5 years to achieve his optimal layout. We don’t want to go through that again.

In my opinion, a south-facing terrace can be shaded very well with an awning. For a west-facing terrace and open land without trees or buildings, I rather see problems.
