That's simply complete nonsense. It depends on the region. There are expensive and cheap places in both West and East. And yes, I have lived in both "West" and "East," and I have close contact with people from all over the FRG. It's simply extremely dependent on the location. And you can't draw a line through Germany for that.

because then in retirement you have something easy to care for, and everything within walking distance ;)

Our plan is to live as old folks (we are already seniors ;-) ) between Gewandhaus, Barfußgässchen and Tchibo standing coffee. From my point of view, an ideal combination. :)
