It's really amazing how some people think you have to put 100k directly into a 27-year-old house in order to be able to live there properly.
If you want, you can probably just move into most existing houses like into a rental apartment. But I also find it understandable that when you get new property, you look at what might be coming up soon and, if financially possible, want to take care of it right away. Heating, for example, I see with my parents, there is just a huge gap between "what must be done" and "what could potentially be done."
