Good morning everyone,

I have been reading along for a while now and have a small question about our current house construction. I have also asked this question in another forum. However, I am still unsure and am asking the question here again. I have already learned that in this case it is not a lintel in the traditional sense. But due to lack of alternatives, I still use the term. So, above our garage, a lintel was shuttered and poured over a length of 7m and a height of one meter. Now the construction workers apparently miscalculated the amount of concrete. This means that on a length of about 1m and a depth of about 20cm, concrete is still missing. This will surely be poured today. Now the question: Because the already poured concrete has dried somewhat until today, is it possible that the concrete added today will not form a "connection" with the already poured concrete? I want to know if there are problems with load-bearing capacity, deflection, strength, or if this is not a problem at all. Before I confront the construction company, I wanted to make sure whether there is actually a reason to complain. Pictures attached.

Thanks and regards

What do you think they do on large construction sites, they don’t also pour the foundation in one day, if the rest is completed today I see no problem. One could have obtained the remaining amount, either by fetching it with the flatbed truck or mixing it in bags.

Brush fixed concrete with cement water solution (without sand) / pre-wet, this improves the bond with the fresh concrete. The loads should primarily be carried by the reinforcement.

Thank you for the previous answers. That reassures me a bit. However, I still don't find it good.

Hello Stefan 2.84

Is there already a lintel above the garage door? One belongs there. Otherwise, the lintel is included in the construction.
I don’t see it as completely unproblematic as my predecessors do. OK, the lintel holds the concrete. But the connection between old and new will not endure. Therefore, I would be concerned that water will penetrate and possibly separate the concrete parts further. The tooth of time is already built in there.
I would definitely point out this defect to the construction manager (in writing).
To miscalculate with such clearly defined quantities of concrete is incomprehensible to me. Fail!

Hello

I have looked at the pictures again.
That could represent a so-called "Überzug". It is like a lintel but on top of it. In that case, it would not be executed correctly from a structural point of view.
