Hello everyone,

we are currently planning our "Stadtvilla" and have received the first offers. Now the masonry company has offered us the following wall construction:

17.5 Porous concrete 16cm fiber insulation boards 2 cm joint and clinker = 47cm wall construction.

At the same time, the reference 30% cost breakdown for masonry work if we decide on sand-lime brick.

The construction would then probably be:
17.5 cm sand-lime brick, 20cm fiber insulation, 2cm joint and clinker = 51cm wall construction.

Now we absolutely cannot decide whether porous concrete or sand-lime brick, excluding the additional costs.

What is "better" and more sensible?
We cannot weigh whether the climate or sound insulation is more important because we currently simply live in an apartment with sloping ceilings.
Therefore, we know neither and are looking for help in making a decision.
What do the professionals say or possibly people who know both?

Best regards

I've said that several times. You've been here for four years, so my Steinemantra should basically be coming out of your ears by now. That's why I spared myself from repeating it here. Weißmaurer versus Rotmaurer ends in a draw in the second leg just as it did in the first leg and is almost a running gag here as a topic.

With the search terms "11ant WDVS", "Mantra", "Rotmaurer" or "Weißmaurer" you should find everything I've ever said about this running gag (or FAQ) topic;

Yes, I have, and my shell builder offers both KS and Ytong. Some say 17.5 cm Ytong is not solid and far too little, hanging heavy cabinets is bad. I don't have Ytong here and therefore can't understand what others mean by the word *bad*. Others say if insulation is already considered, why then Ytong, better KS. Everything has its pros and cons, that is clear to me. Specifically: is a 17.5 cm Ytong exterior wall too thin? (statics are fine, that is clear to me) Should one take the next thicker thickness here or rather think in the direction of KS immediately..?

The clinker already absorbs a lot of sound from outside. I would choose sand-lime brick - but not rationally, rather as a personal preference for "the massive".

Both will work well.

Attaching Ytong and cabinets is no problem for us, the bathroom washbasin, the mirror cabinet, the kitchen cabinets hold up without any issues. KS absorbs sound better. Will you live quietly? If like us in a dead end street with a 20 km/h speed limit, then it doesn't matter. KS will be more expensive, bet on labor costs. Both construction methods are solid enough for a hundred years.

Why? Use plan bricks. It's like really big Lego then.
