No, you don’t do that in northern Germany [emoji4]

You get aluminium when you order aluminium, and carpenters usually don't work with aluminium. But I would take it; a front door (even in a single-family house) experiences more stress than a balcony door. Only the tough get into the garden.

You are exaggerating. I only know houses with plastic front doors here and no problems anywhere.

Exactly, aluminum and roller shutters, exterior shutters that fold closed, carved Madonna with child, slate roof and double garages are not done here. Nor any RC xyz and fingerprint. A must, however: plastic grey or white, or completely overpriced Danish spruce windows, to be painted three times a year, otherwise they rot away quickly, back door, outdoor sink, toilet in the shed, flagpole, chicken coop, metal garage. Always leave the key in all doors, it won’t get lost! Karsten

I cannot confirm that. Initially, a plastic door was installed by the carpenter who also installed the windows. Door 110 cm + side panel 50 cm, cost 5,000 euros. This plastic door creaked and twisted under proper load (pulling and pushing with both hands on the frame). Moreover, the side panel could not be made without its own frame for structural reasons, meaning that in the middle two frame profiles ran parallel to each other, at the expense of the passage width. See picture as an example. I don’t know if this is "normal," but in our construction area all the larger plastic doors I know of are simply bad to junk in this or a similar way.

I gave our carpenter the choice two days after installation to reduce the price of the door by 4k or to dismantle the door myself. Since he did not agree to either option, I had the door removed and scrapped for 1,200 euros. I never paid for the door itself and I offset the 1,200 euros against the windows.

And for us, it is also north.
