Until we have 2 children, I will also be working. So we have at least 6600 euros net. Bonuses also apply, so we will probably be at around 7500 euros. The salary of a doctor in the hospital increases annually; currently, negotiations are ongoing, so the basic salary will be even higher from January.

It's great when parents can provide such support. The equity, combined with the parents' liability as additional borrowers, was probably sufficient for the bank to finance the project. So let's make a note: your parents are actually the ones getting the loan ;-)
In terms of salary, if you're doing a PhD in the medical field, we don't have to worry about a lack of upward development. So 2-3 years of parental leave starting in your mid-30s shouldn't be a problem for you. The parents will probably be happy to look after the kids more often when they know their own offspring are earning the money for the loan agreement in which they are co-liable with their house and land ;-)
By the way, our bank clearly rejected this constellation back then. We also had around 280k equity and a household net income of about 5.5k. But it was only about getting a better interest rate through higher collateral; apparently, there was no interest.

Sure, if you both work, no problem, but you can't do that when you have children – not for several years. Our financing volume is also 500k€ and the purchase price was almost the same, with the difference that we still have to invest money in renovations.

Our rate is 2350€, but we also receive 700€ rent, and our income is asymmetric, which is an advantage.

Of course, it all depends now on what the parents contribute. If they give you 1500€ per month on top, then go for it. With an additional 1000€, it already gets tight with 2 children.

I will take 1 year of parental leave (there is 1800 euros parental allowance then) and then go back to work. That's how it is here in the East :D There are plenty of daycares here and they are open until at least 5:30 pm. As I said, my parents live only a few houses away.

We also had our doubts about this constellation. But actually there were several offers. Direct banks (DKB etc.) naturally don’t do this. The plan is to release the parents from the loan contract as soon as our income is equivalent to their current income.

But the bank will have to agree to that in the future. You are dependent on goodwill. Why should the bank give up security?
