Our children (4 and 5) already eat quite a lot sometimes and the 650 EUR does not only include groceries, but everything you can buy at the supermarket. We don’t spend additional money on lunch at work, that’s already included. Therefore, to be honest, I don’t find that particularly much. In addition, our daughter has a fructose intolerance and we therefore buy some substitute products which unfortunately are very expensive.

What else besides food do people buy at the supermarket?

Drugstore items, magazines, household appliances up to clothing. An example: I only buy belts cheaply for under €10 at the supermarket now instead of €40 like before in the city center.

Anyway, €650 for the supermarket is still somewhat acceptable. May I ask what happens with the other over €2000?

I already know. Drugstore items (toilet paper, dish soap, dishwasher tablets, toothpaste, etc.) are also included for us in the €310. As I said, you shouldn't take us as a benchmark. But €650 is already crazy in my opinion. And I see potential for saving. And also the question of where the other € go.

But ultimately, you have to know. I can only point out that it could ultimately be cheaper and theoretically, you should easily be able to afford it. There are four of us with a similar income. From that, we pay our €1623 rate every month + manage our €5000 special repayment + also put aside another €5000 - 10,000 to pay off a chunk after 10 years. The KFW loan should then be paid off after 10 years, despite still having a fairly substantial remaining debt after that time.

I really find it impressive what some people put themselves through just to own a house. Over 50% of net income just for housing (if that even suffices for you) personally wouldn’t be worth it for me. But you have my respect, even if you can’t buy anything with it.

Hmm.. without knowing exactly, I think that the three of us spend a similar amount or even more on groceries etc. Here. Sure, everything can be cheaper, but I don’t find it particularly extreme.

However, the OP apparently already has a good overview of his costs.
