So the general contractor has adjusted the payment schedule.

Well, it's not really much better now. I don't want to accuse anyone, but if the split into two payments (start/completion) is made roughly in the ratio of 70:30 each time, then I would be very curious to know what the general contractor is thinking. He himself probably only pays the trades after completion (or acceptance) with the corresponding payment term.

The general contractor does all the work himself, except for the roof and heating/electrical.

Slim 39 installments. I think it is clear that several items are paid in advance together as a block.

Then he must pay only in arrears all the more. It is very unusual for him to demand advance payment from the builder there.

I would also talk to him again. Nothing is precisely defined. What does start mean? If you place a pallet of roof tiles and a hammer next to it while the masonry is being done, is that the start of roofing work?
