And an inset mat will hardly solve the problem when it’s really muddy. Then guests simply have to take their shoes off, because you just can’t get it clean that way.

Outside we’re also considering whether to install something inset, but inside it was never an issue – it’s not like a practice/ shopping center with endless foot traffic.

Hello,

yes, we actually have a completely normal doormat in front of the door - all year round.

Behind the door we have a larger "doormat" (approx. 150 cm x 100 cm) on which everyone, including visitors, takes off their street shoes - this way the street dirt stays outside.

Anyone who wants can then put on a pair of the guest slippers, although they are hardly used since the floor is pleasantly cool in summer and pleasantly warm in winter.

This works very well - so far no one has complained...

Regards,

Dirk

We have a recessed doormat inside and outside in the "old" house. I would not take the outside one again because too many pests gather there and the weather affects the mat more strongly. But I find it practical especially inside.

Shoes off. It is natural for us, especially in certain weather conditions.
