Hello,

we are currently planning to build a house.

A dream of ours would be to have our own DVD/cinema room.

Has anyone ever done something similar? How did you go about it?

Our first idea was to integrate the DVD room into a converted attic.
However, our space requirements keep getting bigger the more time we spend planning :)

Therefore, we are now considering whether it would also be possible to set up a cinema room in the basement?
It would be nice and dark there ;)
But what about ventilation options? Does a sound system or the picture appear different in the basement compared to above ground?
What kind of flooring would be best to lay in a basement cinema room?
I am a big fan of wooden floors... but I have never seen a parquet floor in a basement...
Could there be other problems with a projector and screen?

Sorry for all the strange questions... I'm just not really sure if this is a realistic idea or if I should just discard it right away...

Thanks for reading and I’m looking forward to your answers!

Best regards
Nixa

Hi,

we just recently installed this kind of technology at my parents’ place (about 1 month ago).

Short backstory;
my parents have Premiere and every Saturday 5-10 of us sit in the basement and watch football ^^. Until now always on a tube TV. Then someone had the idea that everyone could give 30 euros for a nice projector with a screen / sound system already in the basement.

So we did that, bought a projector from Acer and a screen that you can comfortably roll up. Both screwed to the ceiling and cables laid from the decoder to the projector and the system. Now we watch football on nearly 4 square meters ^^

The basement is the ideal place, although the projector has over 2000 Ansi lumens and is daylight capable, we decided on the basement option, the picture is absolutely great.
If I see who I visit at my parents this week I can maybe upload some pictures of the setup.

So ventilation shouldn’t be a problem, we mounted it directly under the ceiling (reinforced concrete not covered, just wallpapered), clearly it releases heat to the concrete but as long as the fan slots are free it’s no problem. The projector ran smoothly for 4 hours straight at our place (football + post-match coverage).

The onboard camera during Formula 1 looks really cool too, you feel like you’re driving the car yourself ^^

Good luck.
