Drywall gaps without insulation? What is the sound insulation value?

Their rigidity cannot be compared to drywall either. I already mentioned this at the beginning, where you get enlightenment about the physical correlations.

Hello 11ant, yes you are right -- the drywall of course resonates much better than window glass. And your tip about the cross-connection is good. Equating the wall with a box is, in my opinion, a bit extreme -- after all, boxes, speakers, etc. have special openings in their hollow bodies with membranes that resonate and transmit the vibration to the air. And we don't want to drill holes in the wall But I think it does get me to the point: the drywall or the components must not be able to resonate and there must be no air connections that transmit the air vibrations from one room to another. It's a shame that it's so complicated to try it out first

I did not do that either. If you google bass reflex speakers, you will find the effect of the "cotton" described in detail, and with compound speaker systems you are dealing with two membranes placed one behind the other, as with the sheathing of the stud wall. Whether you want to "generate" or dampen sound, the principles to be understood are similar. And you want your walls to behave as differently from speakers as possible. So the goal is not to make them vibration transmitters. There are no coils on the plasterboard sheets, yet they are still membranes. The proposed reinforcements stiffen against partial vibrations.

Good evening, I have been working in a drywall company for almost 10 years. I don’t quite understand why you want to omit the mineral wool. How many m² of wall are we talking about? With a price reduction of 3-4 euros/m² (at least here in AUT), I believe the savings are negligible compared to the expected deterioration in sound insulation values. Just buy 50mm mineral wool Knauf Insulation TI140W or similar, stuff it in, done. Best regards

Exactly this question I ask myself as well. In our case, we have about 300 m² of wall area that is not sound-sensitive (e.g. between storage room / living room or hallway / laundry room or attic rooms). I am considering using the insulation only where it seems necessary (bedroom / hallway or bedroom / bathroom). Did you ultimately build without intermediate insulation and if so, what is your experience? Best regards, Fabian
