Somewhat. I don’t have to run the tap until warm water arrives. On the other hand, I need more energy to circulate and keep reheating the water.

We have circulation for comfort reasons; in terms of costs, it’s essentially a simplistic calculation.

Circulation (of the hot water pipe) has various advantages but also disadvantages.

Advantages:
• Comfort, hot water is almost immediately available
• Legionella prevention with correct temperature design (60 °C / 55 °C)
• can be retrofitted

Disadvantages:
• Costs (pump energy, energy to reheat cooled water)
• with incorrect design, more legionella problems than without circulation (long dwell times in the system -> growth)
• cannot be retrofitted later (or only with high cost)

For short pipes with a pipe content under 3 liters, circulation is IMHO nonsense, and legionella are then rather not a problem either. Unless you definitely want the comfort of hot/warm water a few seconds earlier. In the single-family house sector you are also not "obliged" to do this or that regarding legionella.

Note: Entirely layman’s opinion

Ok, but I didn’t ask about that – then the question would have been: How do you save water / money? (and the circulation basically doesn’t really save you money – it takes several years for the circulation to pay off. For you, it’s only about comfort). That a cistern saves watering water is clear to me.

It’s about the piping system. You already wrote that you’re not familiar with that and that you installed both "some kind of plastic pipes" and copper. The answer to my question would have been about "some kind of plastic pipes" and your experience.

MVR are all good. Regardless of the manufacturer. Fittings as well. Pipe and fitting must be from the same system. I just had Viega Raxofix installed. High quality, but way too expensive. Next time, a "simpler" system that you can also work on yourself. For example, Pipetec (half the price) Raxofix has its own pressing jaws, which only fit this system. Many other providers use standard contours.

Hi,

Aluminium composite pipe from Geberit "Mepla" with matching fittings. However, recently we have had problems with miscrimping of the fittings. Geberit is now launching a new product on the market called "FlowFit" which should help to avoid or better detect miscrimping.

In the riser pipes, stainless steel can be used for this purpose (also check fittings here). However, the system also works with a composite pipe, for example the FlowFit.

Curiously, the current problem with the procedures is that the pipes are gas-tight but not watertight.
