Hello, we are currently planning where would be best to place a double carport in our front gardens. We would like a 6x6 m carport. From the house facade to the edge of the footpath there are about 18 m. However, we want to arrange the first 3.5 to 4 m in front of the house so that it is not drivable (front garden). Then there will remain about 14 m in length and about 9.2 m in width (front, towards the street) and about 10.5 m wide at the back. The plot has an irregular shape. Maybe it is easier to understand from the picture/sketch.
For us it would be important:
1. That we do not always have to drive backwards into the carport. There is a lot of traffic on the street and visibility is reduced (because of the neighboring house).
2. We want to have a parking space outside our property boundary for quick parking when guests come. Unfortunately, there is no parking available on the street and surroundings.
The first plan was to place the carport directly at the house on the right side. Unfortunately, there are outdoor facilities for the heat pump there and we were advised to leave a distance of at least 3 m free, so this option is out.
Our current idea is to place the carport directly in front of the street and one side directly against the neighbor’s wall. Of the 9.2 m width, 6 m would be taken by the carport and with the other 3.2 m we could have the parking space. That would also be the driveway to the property with an asymmetrical double-wing gate. This way we could leave the carport open from inside and park in/out. The front 6 m width of the carport should be closed, either with a side wall or a wall in front of the carport. On the side on the left side (seen from the street) we will also install a carport side wall. This way we protect our property.
My question to you is whether there are other possibilities for the carport placement that could suit our requirements? We have thought a lot but so far we could not find any other alternative...
My other concern is whether there will be enough space in the courtyard for the two cars to park in/out?
Thank you very much!
