Hello everyone, I am brand new to the forum and am currently planning a floor plan for a single-family house with 175 sqm. Of course, my partner and I do not agree on many things right away. One current topic is the planning of the doors. She has gathered some inspiration and now thinks that the doors should be offset from the wall so that storage space is created behind the door. I have brought an example from the internet here. My question now is, what experiences do you have with this and what other advantages and especially disadvantages arise from it? If this topic has already been discussed, I am sorry, I did not find a comparable thread in the search and would appreciate it if you could point me to it. Thank you all and best regards

And - did you only circle the cabinets, but not also realize that they couldn't be there if the doors were tightly set into the corners? - that's actually self-explanatory at a glance (?)

As said, this is an example but if it is a square room, the question of necessity and the pros/cons arises. Here are some potential variants from our current design:

Your wife is right. The cabinets behind the door make the room appear more spacious. Especially when space is limited. Also draw a shelf in the room. Child 2 is rather dark.

Hmm, child 2 does have a window and a skylight. Child 1 is rather disadvantaged in that regard.

The disadvantage of having the cabinets behind the doors is that you can only open the cabinets when the doors are closed. That can be inconvenient. Otherwise, it is better for the rest of the room layout.

Hi,
I would move the door for Child 1 to the left, it is inconvenient in front of the window.
Whether with or without a gap to the wall is a matter of taste.
I prefer the lower options - without a gap.
