Hello everyone,
I am currently renovating a house. Even though I am still busy with the interior work, I am already thinking about the garage. I would like to share my ideas with you and get some input from you.
Current condition:
Single-family house with garage from the 70s
There is a duplex parking system in the garage.
Duplex parker works without problems despite its age
Problem
Due to the dimensions of current cars, the two duplex parkers are practically unusable. Unless I swap my car for a Smart.
Possible solution
I have considered simply removing the duplex parker and filling the garage so that it can be driven into at ground level in the future. I have tentatively listed the duplex parker as "free to take" on Ebay Classifieds and there are several people who would dismantle and pick it up themselves.
After that, I would have a pit in the garage measuring approximately 3.1 x 1.3 x 5.5 m. That would be over 22m³. According to Google, 1 m³ of gravel weighs about 1.7 tons. So I would need ~37 tons of gravel.
What would you suggest for filling? Gravel or recycled concrete? Or construction debris? Always fill up 30 cm and then compact with a vibrating plate? How do I get the material to me best? I don't think my driveway can handle a 40-ton truck.
And then a layer of paving on top?
What do you think of my idea? As I said, I am just starting to think through the possibilities in my head and am open to alternative suggestions.
Best regards
