Who determines what is ugly, mainstream, or personal touch? I am with you - yet I know enough people for whom your/my view on such matters is completely irrelevant; they live happily in a home that appears aesthetically unusual to us. Rhenish greetings

I am of the opinion that 95% of all single-family homes don’t even enter the memory because they look normal... unless you build yourself / plan to build. Then every downspout is questioned and examined to see if the brick color matches the lawn green shade.

What really stays positively in memory (for me) are often compositions – if the fountain in the front yard originates from the same style period as the guest house, estate, and dining table; but often this is not the case with the run-of-the-mill architect (there’s probably a reason why several hundred firms submit designs for large projects).

In my opinion, negative attention often occurs when it had to be extravagant again. Here, for example, a local architect designed neon green front doors with orange windows on chimney-red bricks.

In this case, you yourself, if as the builder you tell yourself, "after all, I live inside and not outside"

...applied to #11 by Painkiller, when it comes to "pain-free"

By the way, our 5 windows at the front are in two sizes/shapes, but none have the same sill height; however, there are vertical lines as well as always equal spacing...
Some people may not like our house front, but I deliberately arranged this front because I like it and therefore like coming home
