That would interest me too We now have to think about exactly this topic as well. The excavator will be there in 2 weeks again for backfilling and we would then also like to roughly shape the garden and put topsoil on it. But what to do with all the weeds or grass?

We mowed everything down with the trimmer and then went through the weed cover with a small (used) tiller. It was quite a job, but that way it shredded everything and loosened the soil a bit. Then we simply raked out the worst. Afterwards, almost a meter of topsoil was put on top, which settled to 20 to 50 cm after the winter. Now the beds are set up, the lawn has grown, and the weeds are under control. I am thrilled.

The question is actually, how much soil is being applied? At one meter like with Evolith, weeds naturally have a hard time coming back up. Over 20 cm, however, they just laugh and many will sprout again.

In general, it is recommended to sow the grass seeds immediately and in greater quantities than described in the recommendation as soon as the soil is spread. This leaves less time and space for the existing weeds.

Exactly. We have basically sown twice the amount as prescribed. I now hope that the lawn will become dense quickly and thus keep the weeds largely down.

Unfortunately, there is only one thread here in the forum on the topic of "reverse tiller". It is always recommended on the internet and under YouTube videos for garden redesign or redoing the lawn.

When I search for rental equipment there, I only find something with >100km travel distance. Are these devices so exotic?

Normal garden tillers are available everywhere in different widths and power levels for rent. Only reverse tillers are not. Has anyone here seen such a device live, or is it more like the Yeti?

Background: the compacted soil has settled properly and we want to redo the entire lawn.

Why do you think you need a reverse tiller instead of a rototiller? As I understand it, a reverse tiller is supposed to push existing stones and roots into rather deeper layers, or let loosened finer soil components lie on top. So, would a rototiller and then collecting all unwanted material also be an option...
