We would like to ask for your assessment, as we do not know if we might be mistaken.

Regarding the bathroom, we would, on the one hand, upgrade the sink. The double washbasin, which appeals to us very much, would be charged an additional nearly 1100 euros by our preferred house provider. Additionally, as mentioned, on top of the standard price, which would also include a sink from Villeroy & Boch.

Now I find exactly the washbasin in online stores for 450-650 euros. That is partly over 600 euros less... I currently do not understand why it is 200 euros cheaper in one online store than in the other, but whatever. These online prices, of course, do not include installation.

But is installing a washbasin so difficult and complex that it explains or, let's say, justifies a difference of about 500 euros compared to the private customer purchase price?

Another example: rain shower, so a fixed head shower. That is also supposed to cost us nearly 1000 euros extra on top of the standard price. Here I find online prices of about 200-300 euros... so around 750 euros less, also excluding installation. But is such a shower system so difficult to install?!?

a) Contract signed? b) Warranty, installation c) Depending on the provider, the business model is also based on the high profit margins of the extras

The prices are also without warranty and without the small adapters, supply lines, couplings, etc. There are numerous discussions on this topic in our forum.

No, I haven’t signed a contract yet.

The fact that I still don’t know what muffles are shows that I have no expertise at all. That actually argues in favor of getting as much as possible from one source, from people who hopefully have the expertise. And of course, they add profit margins on the purchase price, which is clear and has to be economically viable. I have no idea how complicated or not the installation of a washbasin is. For us, a guideline would be whether someone who is professionally unfamiliar with this can manage it in one afternoon with written instructions and a YouTube video, or if that would be naive overestimation?

Ypg, can you recommend a few discussions here on this topic?

(Mind you: it’s not about saving 50 euros, or even 100. If it’s significantly faster and easier that way, we definitely don’t want to save in the wrong place. It’s just that the discrepancy seemed very drastic to us – from a layman’s perspective...)

Example:

Special bathtub fully assembled at the sanitary installer: 1300 euros

In the online shop: 700 euros (+ bathtub carrier 80 euros / + drain stopper 30 euros / + siphon 40 euros / + sealing tape 20 euros / + small parts 30 euros + installation 240 euros)

You see.. online might be (even probably) somewhat cheaper, but the stress in case of problems will accordingly be higher. For a shower faucet, I can still understand going there, for a washbasin... okay, but for larger items like a bathtub or shower tray, which are permanently installed and where errors can only be fixed with considerable effort, I would personally keep my hands off.

For God's sake, when it comes to the bathtub or shower tray, I might not even look at prices. There is nothing we can do about that. We thought that installing a rain shower or a washbasin might not be that difficult...
