Yes, but honestly: no tree belongs in a basin. Whatever reasons you have for planting a tree. It goes into the ground and that's that.

One can have their personal opinion about it. But that's not the point here. I think one should respect such a plan and help the OP determine whether a dimpled membrane is needed or not. From my experience, something should be used there to prevent soil from seeping through the gaps. However, I don't know whether a dimpled membrane or some kind of fleece is better.

You are right. However, a forum is meant to eliminate possible mistakes, even if they were not asked for. So if you already point out that a tree is not doing well, then that's okay, isn't it?! Regarding the question: a dimpled membrane is not harmful, but it only serves to protect against washout.

I wrote that I respect your opinion.

But that was not my question and it is not a mistake either. So calm down. The tree is planted in soil and grows downwards, normally into the soil. That does not harm the tree or anything like that. What nonsense. But you certainly have to expect that if you are in a

Then a tree should never be planted, for example, in a raised bed or something similar.

So if you cannot contribute anything constructive to the question, you can also hold back gracefully.

The thread can be closed. I simply used a dimpled membrane and positioned the dimples facing inward. 10cm below the top edge of the palisade. Pine bark will be placed on top of that.

At our place, the lower "gap area" was sealed a bit with PU foam. Otherwise, the soil lies directly against the "wall". No problems with it so far in 10 years!
