Hello everyone, then I’ll start with my first post as a new member. We are currently looking for a new home. I am interested in an old commercial/industrial hall that is converted into living space according to our own ideas. I did this about 10 years ago with my parents. The result: For a total price of €170,000, my parents now have a single-family house with 150 sqm of living space completely renovated and a nice garden. However, we invested a lot of work ourselves. I imagine something similar now. I have already found a property that interests me. It is a one-story complex of about 200 sqm with a hip/flat roof from the 60s, for which a change of use to residential space has already been applied for by the current owner. I would have about €100,000 – €120,000 available for renovations. I am aware that I have to renew everything, all the wiring, windows, possibly the roof, and then the interior construction. What is not quite clear to me yet is how to best start to possibly have a small overview of costs from the beginning. Would a building surveyor be the right choice? I just don’t want to experience any nasty costly surprises during the renovation. Oh yes, and when does an architect come into play? Of course, a few new walls would have to be built inside J Is this already necessary during the interior construction or only when it comes to the exterior conversion? Thanks in advance.
