Hello,

I have been reading this forum for some time now. Through the various topics, I have been able to understand many matters; we are currently in the phase of finalizing the contract for works.

I would like to take this opportunity to present my concern.

We like colored windows. In the offer, there are now colored windows from Gealan, KBE door and sliding systems, or glw. listed. After consulting with the builder, these are not the acrylic version from Gealan, but only windows covered with film. I am now worried that the film material will fade, etc.

Now I wonder whether such a thing is even worthwhile, or if it will remain colorfast for years. Alternatively, we could get casings in the desired color for 900€ less…

I would like to hand over the question to the forum: what are the experiences with film-covered windows, or is it better to take the casings?

Best regards Raik

Hello! We have plastic windows covered with foil in our current house (grey foil on white plastic). The house is now 7 years old and so far there have been no problems, i.e. no detachment, cracks, or similar, nor has the color changed. During construction, one window frame got a few scratches because the workers obviously went in and out of the house multiple times through this window from the outside scaffolding or transported materials. In the process, the foil was damaged and the white plastic now visible at these points was of course very noticeable. This was then repaired by cleaning and subsequently painting over with the correct RAL color. Surprisingly, this has held up well until today and is practically not visible from the outside, since it is a window on the upper floor – you only notice it when cleaning the window at most. From my personal experience so far, there is therefore nothing against foil-covered windows, except possibly the higher sensitivity or more complicated repair in case of damage (which should actually not be a problem in everyday life). Regards, Pazifik
