We are planning the construction or purchase of a cistern. Has anyone of you already had experience with this? The cistern is primarily intended for watering the garden. According to the development plan, infiltration of rainwater on the property is not permitted.

Concrete? Plastic? What else should be considered? Toilet? Where to position?

I would take this into account directly during the excavation for the base slab and have the hole dug.

Looking forward to your ideas/tips.

In addition to precise drainage planning and possibly irrigation planning, I would directly include a corresponding filter and have a generously dimensioned technical conduit from the cistern, for example, to the technical room installed. This way, up to the maximum expansion stage of house usage, you essentially have all options. If you want these, you naturally need appropriate water pipes to the consumers in addition to a domestic water system.

But most important initially are the exact elevation levels of the connection and transfer points and consideration of backflow protection levels.

Buy a brand product, then regardless of the material, driveability is usually no problem.

What exactly do you mean by drainage/irrigation planning? Do you have a cistern yourself? What do you mean by technical conduit? Maybe you can give me more detailed tips via private message.

We had to build 2 cisterns for firefighting water, which we are now allowed to repurpose. Back then, the two beauties cost about 5K euros including installation for 23K liters. The connection to the house drainage was rather trivial - the planning of the Bewässerung is much more complex.

23K liters? We were recommended just under 5K liters max. So usually I mainly want to water the garden and possibly the toilet if it’s not too much effort. I really have no idea. I have to give it to my architect.
