Hello,

Thank you for your answers.
So, this is how I see it:

1.) we have a limited scope - meaning we have to restrict ourselves, also regarding the children's rooms

2.) my children's rooms were only 12 sqm and I didn't make a fuss about it

3.) how long do children live with their parents? I moved away to study at almost 20 years old. Then never moved back home.

We also see it that way, that in the end it will most likely only be my husband and me living in the house, so why build a huge house? We also planned to live in it for more than 20 years, if we stay healthy after all, you only build once.

But we also have a small bedroom. For that a converted attic, which can be used as a children's room if necessary later, but will first be a study.

Morning!

Why do you even want to build? So that everything is exactly like social housing? If you already mortgage your life to the bank, it should at least have some benefit.

Besides, your theories sound very much like resistance to advice. How long do the children live in the house - a ridiculous 20 years. And then you live all alone on a gigantic 140 sqm - who wants a hobby room, an ironing room, a sauna...
And such an attic is really nice - especially in July/August
12 sqm is definitely enough - do you ride your bike to work, shower with cold water, and have a black-and-white TV - like back in the day?

And very clearly: more than half of our neighbors have built for the second time - and we have too.

So, either do it properly or not at all. And if it’s not enough, then it’s not enough.

Regards, Tomtom.

Well, that’s quite an argument. It doesn’t just limp, it even drives a wheelchair.

The children couldn’t care less whether they live in a rental apartment or in their own home. The main thing is that the rooms are big enough.

Aha...

Sure, the size of the room is the only criterion children have for their home...

That you can be loud without the neighbor in the thin-walled rented apartment complaining is no advantage... having your own garden to play in is obviously not either!
And that the rest of the house has more space compared to the rented apartment is completely irrelevant to children...

Can you possibly explain the connection? What does a (in your opinion) too small children's room have to do with riding a bike, etc.?

I think it should be clear anyway that there are much more important things in a family for children than the size of the children's room... How the parents treat their children, the social environment, etc. are MUCH MUCH more important than the square meters of the children's room... so TE: don’t let yourself be unsettled! 11-12 sqm is not spacious but you’re not ruining your child’s later life with it and you’re not destroying their childhood either...

Especially when you live as a couple, a hobby room fits into any 140 sqm house... especially if you also have a basement, there is enough space for such rooms, even when children still live in the house! And I think an ironing room and a sauna are not everyone’s wish... Some prefer to iron in the living area while watching TV or talking with others or supervising the kids doing homework... Do you happen to have a shoe polishing room planned as well?

So what now? The dream house wasn’t possible the first time? Why build at all then?

But you have heard that there are also houses for rent, haven’t you?

Actually, I can only laugh about this discussion now.

I found it great to live in a house of our own. Even as a child.

Our almost 4-year-old has slowly realized that we want to build and is already really excited.

Our children still share a ridiculous 16 sqm room. And you know what: they really have a lot of nice toys and where are they all day long? Where I am too: in the kitchen, in the living room... Almost never in their room!

And honestly: I don’t need a sauna (I much prefer going to public ones), nor a shoe polishing, ironing, or nose-picking room.

I also wonder what is supposed to be small about a 140 sqm house. Were you all born as decadent millionaires or what?

Sorry.

Thank you Shism for your support
