Central vacuum system, does anyone know about it specifically?

Hello everyone,

We are currently in the middle of planning our house and are considering whether to install a central vacuum system.
Our house will be detached without a basement with about 130 m² of living space.
I just wanted to ask if anyone here has experience with this?
Which systems you have installed and what you paid for them?

The vacuum unit itself should go in the garage, although I’m wondering if this would create a cold bridge. In the utility room it would take up valuable space.

Our house itself is being built turnkey by a construction company. However, we want to install the vacuum system ourselves because we think it’s not difficult and not much work. We only want one suction outlet in the hallway on the ground floor and one in the hallway on the upper floor, since from there we could easily vacuum every room. Has anyone here ever installed such a system?
We would be grateful for good tips.

Regards

Hello MSDriver,

Unfortunately, I can't really help you either, mine won't start until a few months from now. However, I have already dealt a bit with central vacuum systems.

I would definitely recommend installing at least two connections per floor, firstly because working with a short hose is easier and secondly because the greatest suction losses occur in the flexible hoses.

Maybe also consider whether to use a system that can be turned on and off at the handle and not start as soon as it's plugged in, and place the connections not at 30 cm but at 100-110 cm, it's more convenient.

If central vacuum systems, then definitely also skirting boards, I will install three, kitchen, hallway and under/next to the wood stove. I think you can neglect the thermal bridge to the garage, it's just a 50 mm pipe, moreover, the air just stands in the pipe as the sockets seal completely.

We were also offered it, but I don't see the point in such a system. A small handheld vacuum for the kitchen and a good vacuum for the cabin is enough. And you can replace it in 10 years... what about those permanently installed systems? What happens to things that get stuck in the pipes? Does such a system need maintenance? And so on. I think for us it was almost €4000 extra. Maybe my doubts also help to evaluate the matter. But I've never actually seen such a system in operation... so it's hard to compare. But because of the very high costs, it was quickly ruled out. Nowadays hardly anyone installs carpets, so usually people just do wet mopping anyway.

Hello

the post is already a few years old. I wanted to ask what you have decided now.
We are currently in the planning stage as well.

Hello Sabrina,

I don't think he will answer you anymore. He was last online in 2014.

I installed Thomas's system (google helps) for myself. They use simple HT pipes for the pipes. I have a total of 4 suction sockets.

best regards
Tom
