Carport roof, is execution without bitumen roofing possible?

Sorry if this thread is totally wrong here, but I couldn't find a suitable category?

I have a quick question: Can a carport also be built without bitumen roofing or is that total nonsense?
Does that have a disadvantage in the long run? Will the roof rot away without bitumen? Or are the wooden roof boards enough?

The durability will definitely suffer if the boards are exposed to the rain. Furthermore, it would be doubtful that the roof is rainproof...

In general, bitumen is not a must. However, it also depends on the overall concept of the carport roof.

We are currently considering to what extent a roof made of multiwall sheets (light-transmitting material) is suitable for the carport. These sheets must of course be break- and impact-resistant. Logically, no bitumen layer would be applied here.
My sister’s neighbor roofed about 40 sqm of terrace like this about a year ago and has been very satisfied so far. Next week I want to talk to him about it – let’s see what comes out of it.

We built our carport ourselves, using [Stegplatten]. We had some left over, and we plan to build a small conservatory ourselves again. It wasn’t even that hard to build something like that, and the materials weren’t expensive either. For example, I don’t like wood on a carport, I personally don’t like it at all. You always have to paint the wood again and protect it.
