Hello everyone, we now want to take carport planning a bit more seriously and I wonder what really speaks against a DIY store carport. A month ago we assembled 2 garden sheds from a DIY store and at least we are not disappointed - sure the walls are a bit thinner, the wood is still drying, etc., but it looks nice (thanks to the paint) and serves its purpose. Does anyone of you have a DIY store carport? I always read something about carport prices beyond 8,000 € - at the DIY store the kit costs maybe 1,500 € (already a somewhat decent one). So far we have inquired with a master carpenter, who despite the first meeting never gave us an offer. Best regards

When driving through somewhat older residential areas from 10-15 years ago, the appearance of the simple carports always put me off. Besides, it always looked messy under the carports. (ich wär da vermutlich auch so ein Typ) That's why we switched to a garage.

That will be difficult for me with the garage. Simply in the sense of without a special roof, rock stone wall, and Löwn statue on it? I also know it that way, that all carports weather over time... but I haven’t really noticed a big difference between a hardware store and a designer carport (of course, later on you don’t necessarily know which is which anymore).

Basically, there is nothing against such a carport, if it fits with you. It wouldn’t have fit with us. That’s why we had an individual carport built. But it’s not cheap. But it was worth it.

Look at how it will look in 3 years. If wood is processed too early, it warps in all directions.

What you naturally don't get or only get for an extra charge at the hardware store is an individual adaptation to the building and the superstructure and substructure, furthermore I bet you can get the material cheaper at a regular timber merchant. Therefore, you should definitely check to what extent the prices are comparable.

I myself only buy consumables, small parts, garden materials etc. at the hardware store – anything that is supposed to provide lasting use has no chance at the hardware store. Either because the quality is not right or if the quality is right, you get it cheaper at the specialist dealer, so I would be very cautious about what kind of carport you get there for 1500€ – hardware stores can’t work magic with prices either.

Best regards Dirk Grafe

What usually looked better in the older residential areas were the carports with an overhanging hipped roof with roof shingles, instead of the all-around wooden fascia. This way, the carport simply doesn't weather as quickly. However, I don't know if they are also available from [Baumarkt].
