Don't all your doors have a latch (that's what we call it colloquially) that can be adjusted so you can push the door open? You insert it when you need it and then simply take it out again. That solves all the problems listed here as the simplest solution. I don't understand the problem. I don't know any front door that doesn't have that.

Ours doesn't. But that's the same "problem" as with a key: you have to remember it.
