Calculation of the roof height based on a floor plan

Hello,

a typical beginner question, but before I do it wrong..

How do I calculate the roof height based on a floor plan? Let's say I have 9 x 11 and plan a hip roof/pyramid roof. Now I want to play a bit with the angle and compare the effect on the roof height.

Likewise, I want to change the floor plan to 8 x 13 and experiment with the angles. Somehow I am missing the entry point for calculating the correct roof heights.

Can someone give me a nudge?

Just consider the side view, two-dimensional, and then remember 7th(?) grade geometry, triangle calculation. Cosine, sine, tangent, and the Pythagorean theorem. Hypotenuse, adjacent side, etc.

Thank you. Then I'll go ahead and use the [Geo-Dreieck]. The hint about the [Schnittansicht]/[Seitenansicht] was missing for me (can't see the forest for the trees and all that).
