Buying a house: realistic or are we overextending ourselves?

This is only possible within 10 minutes after sending.

It's probably quite individual. I am currently trying to determine our monthly expenses for groceries, drugstore items, and other household goods. Since we have separate accounts and don't have to watch every euro, it's not quite easy to work out. As far as I can see, it's something between 1200 € and 1500 € including restaurants, birthdays, and other events (club parties, birthdays, village festivals, etc.) for 4 people. Vacations for us are more in the range of 8-10k per year. Before the kids, we also managed with 400-500€ for groceries and drugstore items. But that was of course already six years ago and without restaurants.

I consider that realistic. Honestly: if you go shopping today, 150 euros easily go just like that, even with offers at Kaufland or similar. That usually lasts maybe 5 days for us. That does not include delivery service, restaurants, or lunch at work or similar. But if that fits the original poster, then everything is great. I also hardly know anyone in my circle of acquaintances who manages with 2000 euros for vacations. They are already gone after 4 days at a wellness hotel or similar. But well, everyone is different here. What I want to say: better not to tighten things to the extreme, good luck.

With that money, I’m taking two vacations this year. 1. One week in Albania/Macedonia for two people with flights, accommodation, rental car, and meals. 2. One week in Sicily for four people with flights, rental car, accommodation. Meals will be tight. Just saying what you can get for that price during the holiday season (!!!). For next year over Easter, the 2k is also enough for a 10-day trip for two to Zanzibar (including activities).

Awesome, I think I’m doing something wrong. We also always have to vacation during the holiday season.

You can go on vacation for very different amounts of money. My sister-in-law and her family (4 people) were at Lake Garda last year for one week during the summer holidays: holiday apartment for 3000 euros, plus eating out daily, shopping, Gardaland, ... We were four people for 3 days in Saxon Switzerland (overnight stay in a youth hostel) followed by a week on Rügen in a holiday home with a view of the Baltic Sea and right on the beach: our accommodation costs were a total of 1100 euros with mainly self-catering. Total vacation costs were about 2500 euros for 10 days. It really depends on your own idea of vacation. A wellness hotel and amusement park would be a nightmare for me, hiking and simple facilities in the holiday apartment would not be an option for my sister-in-law.
