Buy the kitchen more than a year before completion?

My wife has been in contact with our future neighbor. They have already ordered and paid a deposit for the kitchen (completion of our semi-detached house is July 2017). My wife now wants us to buy the kitchen as well. I think that is a bit premature.

Of course, you should know how the kitchen is set up before submitting the electrical plan, but there are still several months until then. If I am supposed to submit the electrical plan after the shell construction, that would be around early 2017.

She said that kitchen offers are currently very good. When I occasionally browse through the weekly newspaper ads, I always see offers somewhere at one of the numerous kitchen studios and furniture stores.

I also can’t imagine buying a kitchen for €10,000 today and having it only built in over 12 months. What are your experiences here?

We bought the kitchen in September, the house will also be set up in September. It fit so well into our schedule.

So bought only a few days before completion or what do you mean by "set up"? Maybe I'm not so knowledgeable when it comes to construction terms.

But I think so too. There is a super-duper offer at any time of the day and night throughout the year, but it is surely replaced by the next one. I never fall for that. "Sign now, the offer ends tomorrow!" Yeah, right!!!

We also bought our kitchen more than a year before moving in - by the way, it was more than twice as expensive as you had planned. So it’s not unusual even for expensive kitchens. However, the prices are ALWAYS GREAT - every studio / furniture store etc. always gives you 99% off custom-designed kitchens (except for electrical, countertops, sink, installation...). Buy whenever you want. But it’s nice to look forward to things like a kitchen if you buy it early. The "selection process" is also simply great. Basically later a "I build the house around the kitchen".

It was unclearly phrased by me, we bought it in Sept 2015 and the house will be completed in Sept 2016. Therefore, more than a year earlier. And the right time is never really there, the offer has to suit you and the feeling as well, then you buy or you leave it. The kitchen is usually only ordered about 10 weeks beforehand anyway.
