I saw in one of your posts that you bought in Barmstedt. Barmstedt has 10,000 inhabitants and thus of course no professional fire brigade. By the way, there is no professional fire brigade in the entire district of Pinneberg.

But that is difficult with 3 kids of different ages. And you have to keep in mind that in Berlin/Brandenburg this only happens after 6th grade (fortunately).

I am quite aware of that and have considered it.

The time will announce itself, the kids’ mood regarding this doesn’t change overnight.
But the family council will solve that without my presence and involvement.

And that is a good thing. Volunteer fire departments may probably not be quite at the professional level of career fire departments and are certainly slower depending on the time of day, but especially in rural areas they also bring the advantage that the firefighters usually know exactly how many people of what age live in most houses and, with a bit of luck, even already know the premises. Since they also know well who is related or friends with whom, additional "emotional support" can be requested in no time. People who reduce a volunteer fire department to drinking parties because they don’t perceive their practical work at all (because city dwellers are used to career fire departments) are naturally not really wanted, as long as this arrogance is obvious. Urban versus rural has always been a fundamental question. I think I know no one who says they could equally imagine both as a place of residence for themselves.
