Exactly, I even asked for a photo of the equipment to be replaced. That way you get a sense of the scale (which I fear is not far off from the boom cube and that I don't need to mention Transrotor or Kebschull just because of the budget). Am I right in fearing that something with only one power plug for the whole junk is being asked for here? Oh yes, they were quite decent and broadly positioned (for example from receivers to pre- and power amplifiers), secret tips back then were NAD and Poroton, or with a higher budget (just below Burmester) T+A. No, the truth lies, as so often, "in the middle". And I already said that at 10 TDM the saturation point was reached, above which the layman no longer perceived improvements.

I find amplifiers - if you are not in the high-end range - secondary. With the combo in the attachment (cost about €15) I ran a small 2.1 DIY system for a while. If the speakers are only of a certain quality, you only hear differences if you want to hear them.

Honestly, you’re really overdoing it now. What exactly the old thing was really doesn’t matter. A cheap compact system that I bought 25 years ago as a student. I’m really too lazy now to even photograph it. It’s not worth it. I wouldn’t claim that it should be the benchmark either. Quite a few manufacturers were named. Everything is being noted. Now in Advent I’m on vacation with my husband. We’ll go to the big city and listen to a few examples. :)

Okay. Everyone as they like. I was always very amused when I heard: "The CD player doesn't sound good yet, but there are new cables on it. They just need to break in first."

But cable sound still seems to be a topic. :D

But it's off-topic anyway.

On the subject: A consultation is generally difficult, as sound is a matter of taste. If you like dynamics and a live feeling, for example, the Klipsch RP-280F could be something for you. I prefer neutrality and uncolored reproduction, which others find boring.

For 600-800€ you can get some really good speakers. Plus an amplifier up to max. 200€, for example Denon PMA-520AE (in my opinion a cheaper one is also sufficient) and e.g. a used iPod Touch 5G for ~100€.

Cool. Just now, the CD player of the system upstairs also gave up. However, it is also 20 years old.

You see, that already clarifies something essential: then you at least don't want a "just new" speaker box, but an improvement over what existed before. And you basically just can't name the currently trendy bros who make them - which is no shame :-)
