What I have in mind is not overpriced and can be had for around 1000,-. I emphasize again: please don't do Amazon here, but listen yourself. In the store. With your CD. Your music. Take one with you. Sonos/Bose/Teufel Raumfeld are, in my opinion, not cheap for what they offer. They all provide bass-heavy Helene Fischer sound. If that's what you want, it's okay.
I actually imagined she goes into a store: looks at Yamaha etc., yes, Onkyo for all I care as well. Listens to various speakers. Then the combination comes about: let's say Heco Victa, Yamaha R N 301 receiver, Yamaha CDS 300 CD player. Without cables now (another 25,- added) I'm at 700-750,- euros. With that she can listen to music from radio, CD, stick, iPod. In clean hi-fi quality for years. She has a valuable full aluminum case in the room, with a real power switch. And it will last another 20 years. In my opinion, my combo would be suitable for modern pop music, for musicals, for a string quartet, but also for home party sound if there ever is one without a cooking show.
Yes, it's not high-end. I know that. Only... somewhere this hi-fi scene is also a madhouse. What is babbled about tone and sound, they don't even hear it, spend thousands on some laboratory values, crazy. You don't have to join in. Karsten
