Five years ago we faced this question, kids moved out, house too big. We didn’t want an apartment. Living without immediate neighbors was simply nicer. It turned into a barrier-free bungalow, grin. In your place, I would look for a plot by the lake for the retirement home.

I would take a closer look at the termination due to personal use. If you own a house, you have no need. And if the tenant does not want to move out, under these circumstances it might be a years-long process. I wouldn't want that. We are like Nida35a, after years in the house I would never want to move into an apartment again. You don't want to miss the freedom in the house anymore.

It is very good! Shopping, doctors, pharmacy, etc. all reachable in about 5 minutes by bike or on foot.

I also prefer living without neighbors as such.

We have a lot of family abroad and want to be able to stay away for longer periods without worrying about the house.

We also don’t want to burden our daughter with the house and make her immobile because of it. She is only 13, but has been dreaming for 5 years of living her life in Japan (I hope it won’t happen because I don’t like flying…)

I researched it: if the house is sold and you can properly prove that there is owner’s usage, it shouldn’t be a problem. But I would clarify that beforehand.

We don’t want a house anymore later. An owner-occupied apartment, preferably a fancy penthouse if we find one. We don’t want to tie ourselves down with a house and land again!

I would only start looking for an apartment when things become more concrete. Planning a property 15 years into the future is difficult. An apartment that is well suited as an investment usually isn’t very nice for personal use. In any case, rental yields are currently too low, so it is unlikely to be financially worthwhile. And whether you can still terminate a very long-term tenant for personal use in 15 years is uncertain. The situation in this regard has not necessarily improved in recent years.

I don’t know if the apartment is optimal as an investment now, for that reason we wouldn’t primarily purchase it as mentioned.

We like the quiet but still very quickly accessible central location.

Let’s see, we will take a look at it first on Friday.

We would also like to move into a nice, central apartment once all the children have moved out, which ideally is also barrier-free. I keep checking for properties now and then, but have not found anything yet. So, to put it briefly: I would do it if I like the apartment.
