Friends of mine also build without a basement. For that, they want to place 1, possibly 2 20-foot ISO containers in the garden and let them grow old with wine. Whoever likes it.

Thanks already for so many answers!

I already suspected that it will be really tight. But a basement is unfortunately out of the question price-wise. A small attic is available, but more suitable only for things like suitcases, Christmas decorations, old files, etc.

Maybe we really have to think about a shed at the double carport. It will be tight with our property boundaries then.
In Lower Saxony, we have to keep a distance of 3m from the property boundary with our house. Border development is allowed on one side up to 9m, but a maximum of 15m in total. We still have to find out exactly what actually counts as border development (if the carport, for example, starts 2m from the boundary, is it still considered border development?...)

Normally not. Boundary construction is called that because you are building on the boundary here.

It would still be possible to have a basement under the garage. And if it should be one of the already suggested shipping containers as a basement substitute under the garage....

That would already be very good. That way we could also build the planned garden shed longer at the border without any problems...

But not in Lower Saxony, as I recently learned myself here, § 5 para. 8, sentence 2 NdsBauO:

Without distance or with a distance reduced to 1 m from the boundary are permitted
1.
Garages and buildings without living rooms and
fireplaces with a height of up to 3 m and (...).

A distance of the garage of more than 1 m from the boundary would therefore not be allowed.
And the house also does not have to keep 3 meters, but 1/2 H, at least 3 m boundary distance.
With, for example, 8 m ridge height, this is already 4 m....

Since we are actually planning a double carport rather, the question now would be whether carports also fall under this...

Regardless, sentence 3 says
"Structural installations according to sentence 2 may reduce the distance according to paragraph 2 along a total length of 9 m per property boundary, but on a building plot only on a length of 15 m in total."

I understand this rather as meaning that a garage standing 2 m away is not a "structural installation according to sentence 2," because it would stand further than 1 m away...
