Building the house yourself from the first drawing to completion

Why are you only coming now?! We constantly have bad experiences with craftsmen here, with you by our side zero problemo.... Oh, maybe I’ll build again....do you also help nationwide? What can you guarantee? Good food, fun, a place to sleep and drinks of your choice, then I would take 1 year off. How big is your property and what will it cost you in the end? The like will come later!!

If you can keep a year free, then you are also capable of building everything yourself. The builder is always the doer. Step by step and you will reach the goal faster than you think. I just don’t make myself dependent on other craftsmen.

We use the house and the bathroom every two weeks.

Great performance. It seems to me that you enjoyed doing it as well. Tackling such large projects alone is not for me – I am too impatient and undisciplined to carry out all the details myself. I have the utmost respect for people who do this – whether building a house, restoring a classic car, or completing other 1000+ hour projects on their own. So: respect!

It is absolutely okay and correct to do things yourself and then have a master craftsman inspect and approve them. Whether someone does the electrical work in their house or the brakes on their car – if they are capable, they are allowed to do it. Sometimes an authority has to confirm that everything is in order.

Don’t you have to add the earnings you miss out on that year to the costs?

Only if you actually miss them out. Friends of ours built a similarly sized stone house 15 years ago, simpler than the one shown, as an extension to their existing house. Everything from the foundation slab up was self-made and done after work and on weekends. Friends and relatives helped here and there. Not an easy time (6 months) but unbeatable in price.

The earnings that slip through my fingers are the current value of the house. Trend rising. Value of the land and the house today, almost double. There is for every house and every price someone who would buy it. I calculate the value of the house!
