Building site, how do you see the chances?

So with us (in the town in Franconia), allocation was done according to FIFO. I have not seen such an approach anywhere else. There was an interested parties list, but after that it was not mentioned anymore. If it had gone according to the locals model, we would not have started yet, since there is no plot, and where we are locals, the sqm costs 450€. Somehow quite a joke, 300€ difference because of 9 km.

It has both advantages and disadvantages.... somehow I can understand that it's really annoying when the children have to move away because they can't get a building plot as locals... and then have to drive the grandchildren around for 45 minutes....

On the other hand, 3km further we are not considered locals, our town has no building plots so although I am a local I have to apply just like someone who moved in from Hamburg...

And then again, it's also annoying when I am excluded everywhere as a newcomer because I am not a local

The good old list at the property office with First Come First Serve was simply the fairest...

But only as long as connections (Vitamin B) don't play a role. My parents also had the above-mentioned procedure. My grandpa was the municipal worker and because of that, the mayor moved their application all the way to the top of the list without my parents knowing. The rest was also not handled fairly and correctly. The list was called up in order by phone. Whoever didn't answer the phone at that time was bypassed and automatically moved to the end. There is cheating and unfairness with every variant. It stands and falls with the people carrying it out.

I would like to generally write something about our property search.

We are roughly looking in the area southwest of Stuttgart, towards Weil der Stadt or Pforzheim. There are of course several potent employers in this region (Porsche, Bosch, Daimler). Therefore, building plots often cost around €600/m². Traditional residential areas with single-family homes are increasingly rare to be developed because they have too low land utilization. Other areas fail due to land consolidation or the plots remain in private ownership. You only have to look at a few new development areas here in the area, there are quite a few building gaps, so-called grandchild plots.

If there is a new development area, the municipalities quickly have several hundred applicants, which of course reduces the chances. Many cities and municipalities therefore resort to allocation systems that clearly favor local citizens.

It's really frustrating to find a building plot here, especially since we cannot afford €600/m² at all.

How far would you commute at most? Or rather, where do you work again?

My wife works in Stuttgart and I 10 km south of Leonberg. We have actually set ourselves the goal that during rush hour we both want a commute of under 1 hour. Why do you ask?
