Building site, how do you see the chances?

This is already the third expansion of this new development area.

During the last expansion 2 years ago, acquaintances of ours were able to get a building plot quite easily.

It seems that the large number of applicants here is probably due to the current shortage of building plots.

hi how's it going otherwise? how old are you, kids, etc.?

I see the chances rather slim, unless the locals are all retirees and the outsiders bring in fresh blood...

So it was with us: 32 plots were for sale. According to the municipality, there were already over 600 inquiries without an application. In the end, only local residents were allowed to apply, double applications were canceled. No further restrictions or advantages for young families like us. That left about 45 eligible applicants. The allocation was simple - everyone put a ticket in a bag, which was drawn and could choose. Despite the high chance, we were initially unlucky there - we could have had a semi-detached house. We gambled and declined. Therefore, we are on the waiting list... (position 3... luckily). We were initially disappointed... as it was very important for us to stay in the town in the future because of our children. In the end, over 12 applicants (possibly a few more in the meantime) dropped out - almost 1/3 - and we got our desired plot. It all came unexpectedly.... I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you, you just need luck, no quotas will help with that. Best regards

Thanks already to everyone who replied.

Now I understand why it was still easy to get a building plot in this residential area in 2017.

The place I’m talking about has about 6,000 inhabitants including sub-districts. The residential area is located in a sub-district and was developed in 2016 with 74 building plots. In 2017 it was expanded by 64 building plots. Now an additional 40 are coming. In 2017 it was apparently no problem to get a building plot. That probably has to do with the fact that at the same time 140 building plots were allocated in the main district.

The demand could be satisfied in 2017 by the higher supply.
I do not expect that we will get a chance here.

Regards
Matthias

Wait and see: some applicants fail in financing, others have since divorced, some have simultaneously applied for properties in other locations, etc. etc.
We also got in later because the original buyer (or "reserver") apparently fell ill.

Asked there again. The official assessment is that there is hardly any chance for non-locals to get a building plot. That is of course very disappointing.

Thanks again for all the answers.
