Energy-efficient building renovation will be funded with 1.5 billion euros per year in the future. This was decided yesterday by the Budget Committee of the Bundestag.
The KfW Bank also offers low-interest loans and grants. Thus, the Bundestag Budget Committee gave the green light for the increase in climate protection programs agreed upon by the black-yellow coalition from 2012 to 2014, as the Federal Ministry of Construction announced on Wednesday.
The programs of the development bank KfW can now be continued with full momentum, said Federal Minister of Construction Peter Ramsauer (CSU). With federal subsidies, the KfW Bank offers low-interest loans and grants for investments in energy efficiency. This is intended to create incentives, such as better insulation of old houses or the installation of modern windows.

Ramsauer: Green Light for Building Renovation
Funding Programs for Energy-Efficient Construction and Renovation in Full Amount
The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag today fully released the funds for the CO2 building renovation programs for 2012. Thus, 1.5 billion euros per year are available for the KfW programs this year and until 2014.
Federal Minister Peter Ramsauer: "Building renovation is an important component of the energy transition. Thanks to the green light from the Budget Committee, the funding programs can continue with full momentum. This is good news: for home renovators, the construction industry, and climate protection. We continue to rely successfully on voluntary incentives with building renovation."
For home renovators, the KfW Bank offers with the help of federal subsidies low-interest loans and grants for investments in energy-efficient construction and renovation. Individual measures as well as complete renovations and new buildings are funded, as long as a certain standard above the legally required level is met. The amount of funding depends on the extent to which this necessity is exceeded—according to the "Effizienzhaus" standards.
About 40 percent of energy in Germany is consumed by the building sector. At the same time, buildings contribute to about 30 percent of CO2 emissions. Since 2006, the funding programs have supported the energy-efficient renovation or construction of almost 2.7 million apartments and have triggered private investments of around 94 billion euros. The environmental balance also looks good: the amount of energy saved annually corresponds to the energy production of about two nuclear power plants. At the same time, emissions of well over 5.2 million tons of CO2 are avoided each year.
